HAIR DRIER PROJECT WITH ESTHER PASSARIS
Tuesday 11 th August 2020, despite the Covid restrictions, was a very special day for the students at the Hawkers Market Girls Centre, (HMGC).
Hon. Esther Pasaris and her team at the Nairobi County reached out to the hairdressers that have trained from HMGC in the last 27 years.
This is in line with their mission of empowering youth. It establishes equity, innovation, dignity and self reliance.
Their hard work and excelling in hairdressing was recognised and rewarded by Hon. Esther Pasaris. Each student was donated an upright drier and a hand drier with hair products.
Isabella Asenwa, our Project Manager and Hon. Esther Pasaris set up the following plan.
It was agreed to set a date with Carolyn Waweru, Carolyn Sande both Alumni will teach the girls how to use the equipment.
We have also agreed to start a table banking with the group so that they can save some money to earn the equipment.
This is also for accountability.
Hon. Esther Pasaris also looked at the
Remains of our demolished Centre in the market.
HMGC can now apply for the equipment for the centre.
This will be a huge improvement in our curriculum.
We are a ‘ Learn and Earn’ Centre. Now we can
Offer hair dressing, computer skills, sewing, designing, recycling together with life skill for a post Covid life style.
We are truly grateful to Hon Esther Passris, and feel bless that we have such support for the students from Korogocho, Huruma, Deep Sea, Mathare and Kangemi.
